Essay --

It is difficult to ascertain the general view of an entire population towards other group of people. The opinion the British had for the American colonies was already negative as the colonists were generally viewed as second class citizens. The relationship declined after the Seven old age War. It was costly for Britain and they were forced to raise taxes in the colonies so as to financially rec all over. Many Americans were unwilling to pay and rebelled against the crown for it. King George III and majority of Britain viewed the Americans as ungrateful for their refusal and began to use force through their taxation. This would eventually lead to rebellious ideas forming in the colonies, but these ideas were treated as only belonging to a very small minority. Once the supporters for a revolution increased, it was falsely assumed that these Yankees were using bullying tactics to silence opposition. Another issue was that the damage from the war make it apparent to the British that a militia was not enough to protect their colonies from future enemies, so they had developed a large army to remain in America to protect their interests. However, maintaining an army can be costly, which is another reason taxes were so high for the colonists that most were unable to pay them. Their complaints were mostly ignored and taxes were lay in through force. It was becoming apparent to colonists that they were nothing, but an economic resource to Great Britain, which would eventually lead to a revolution. This mentality that Americans are inferior to the British did not just sprout out of thin air. Although the colonies had become almost self-governing, many in Britain assumed this superiority complex due to the complete control they had over ... ...o this for the colonists. Instead, Americans were only able to exercise as much power as was granted to them by Parliament. There was no suggestion of compound troops organism developed to defend America. No leaders in Britain seemed to consider simply asking the colonists for financial aid, instead of just voting in taxes to forcefully organise on them. A colonial government would only work with Britain if they could see a profit and there seemed to be no faith in colonial soldiers because they would operate under rules different to the British army. In fact, these prejudices were based on British interpretations of the early part of the Seven Years War. Failure to aid between British commanders and the colonial governments was common and sometimes hostile. The contributions that the colonists provided were mostly ignored, such as their provision of many troops.

Suffering Patients Need Medical Marijuana Essay -- Argumentative Persu

Suffering Patients Need medical MarijuanaIf a doctor told you that you could either go blind in three years from glaucoma or break the law by smoking pot, which would you choose? If marijuana could prolong your life by allowing you to continue cancer chemotherapy without the double-dyed(a) vomiting and nausea, would you consider it? If cannabis could stop epileptic seizures that had plagued you since childhood, would you use it? This medicine can benefit patients suffering from these and many other afflictions, but it is being withheld they be being denied a right granted to all living thingsthat of self-preservation. Freshman seminarWellness paper101 Ways of doing It With Out Actually doing itThis platform totally wasnt what I expected it to be. To my surprise the whole thing was actually intimately relationships, and what to do on dates without having sex, and or sexual influence. Attending college is a very different experience. Its when most of us experience life situations and learn to make our own decisions. The problem is that many students, due to the influence of our society, get back to have sex because everybody else is doing it. But what many students dont realize is that there both rewards and consequences when dealing with sexual intercourse. This is an important issue, especially when most of my colleague peers believe in casual sex. I personally believe that sex is something that shouldnt be taking lightlyin other words, Im not anybodys booty callAnyways, back to the seminar. In the discussion, many of us realized that dates seem to be a thing of the past. No one really goes o n a one on one date anymore. Its always a group thing, going out to a party or just hanging out. I cant even remember if Ive ever been on a real date myself. Relationships inadequacy that solid foundation of one to one communication, which is probably why most teens have sex its whats expected, yet nobody talks about it.During the seminar, we were educated in finding other ways to express ourselves and feelings to each other. Even though some were far-fetched and unrealistic (for example a grave g-force walk), some were actually feasible (example a picnic). A few of the other suggestions included a K-mart party, which I personally wouldve evr thought of, but I venture it is another alternative to sex. Some of the more realistic ones included walks on the beach, athletic activities, dinner and a movie. Hopefully some of these ideas will be utilise around campus instead of sex. Many attending the meeting suggested other dating ideas such as horseback riding, test driving cars and playing golf. I didnt quite agree with them because a.) horses are big animals b.) I dont have a license and c.) I HATE golf Also during the seminar, we participated in an activity. We were split into groups, based on gender. The girls that attended the seminar wrote down some of the things they like to do and some of the things they hate, the boys in the room did the same.

Department of Homeland Security Essay

Returning from a vacation to Germany in February, freelance journalist Bill Hogan was selected for additional screening by customs officials at modify International Airport outside Washington. Agents searched his luggage, he said, then they told me that they were impounding my laptop. Shaken by the encounter, Hogan examined his bags and found the agents had also inspected the memory card from his camera. It was fortunate that I didnt use the laptop for work, he said, or I would support had to call up all my sources and tell them that the government had just seized their information. When customs offered to return the computer most two weeks later, Hogan had it shipped to his lawyer. How common Hogans experience is remains unclear. But an April ruling by the U. S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals found that the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees customs duty and Border Protection, does have full authority to search any electronic devices without suspicion in the same w ay that it can inspect briefcases. Now, businesses and other organizations be pushing back, Congress is investigating, and lawsuits have been filed challenging how the program selects travelers for inspection. The ninth circuit ruling was the result of more than 20 lawsuits involving electronics seized from travelers who were nearly all of Muslim, Middle Eastern, or South Asian descent. Citing the lawsuits, customs officials decline to say how many computers, storage drives, cellphones, and BlackBerrys they have confiscated or what happens to them afterward.Officials declined to testify at a recent Senate hearing, although they wrote in a prepargond statement that officers have the responsibility to check items such as laptops and other personal electronic devices to ensure that any item brought into the country complies with relevant law and is not a threat to the American public. But congressional investigators say that copies of drives are sometimes made, meaning customs could be duplicating corporate secrets, statutory and financial info, personal E-mails and photographs, along with stored passwords for accounts with companies ranging from Netflix to Bank of America. The practice of storing and duplicating material might be something that both opponents and supporters of seizure could agree to regulate, says Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, an otherwise unfaltering supporter of customs authority. Larry Cunningham, an assistant district attorney from New York, told the hearing I am aware of no authority that would permit the government, without probable give birth to believe it contains contraband, to keep a persons laptop or to copy the contents of its files. Whatever the case, the controversial practice has prompted some businesses to change their policies well-nigh traveling with corporate information. Many now require employees to access data remotely to avoid confiscations. Seizure present(prenominal)ly deprives an executive or company of th e very dataand revenuea business trip was intended to create, says Susan Gurley, head of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, which is lobbying for greater transparency and government oversight of the confiscations. As a businessperson returning to the U. S. , you may find yourself effectively locked out of your electronic office indefinitely. Indeed, while Hogans computer was returned within two weeks, others say they have had theirs held for months.Customs insists that terrorism and child pornography are sufficient justification for electronics searches. And even civil libertarians agree it makes sense for customs to search luggage, which could pose immediate dangers to aircraft and passengers. But, says Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, customs officials do not go through briefcases to review and copy paper business records or personal diaries, which is apparently what they are now doing in digital form. These PDAs dont h ave bombs in them. And then there are the precedents that critics say the program could set. Imagine, they say, if other nations began seizing the laptops of U. S. travelers. We wouldnt be in a position to strongly object, Rotenberg says. Indeed, U. S. officials have advised visitors to this summers Olympics in Beijing that their laptops may be targeted for duplication or bugging by the Chinese. Blood Clotting Essay

Coagulation, or thrombogenesis, is the process by which agate line clots in an attempt to restrict melodic phrase loss from an injury site, and repair the alter watercraft. Most of the time clotting is a good thing, however there are circumstances when a clot can form abnormally, leading to union attack, stroke, or other serious medical problems. A blood clot forms almost immediately after the bleeding occurs, which is possible through enzymes and other substances in blood that respond to breaks in vessel walls. The clot is a temporary fix preserveing further blood loss. There are four major move of blood clot formation. The first step in clotting is the formation of the platelet plug. Platelets are the smallest of the three major types of blood cells whose primary function is to prevent bleeding. When encountering a damaged blood vessel, the platelets become stimulated and rush to the injury site where they clump together, forming a plug and restricting the bleeding. They also release substances to suffer the chemical reaction of the clotting process. These chemical reactions are responsible for growing the blood clot. Dissolved proteins, also referred to as clotting factors, are contained within the blood for the purpose of promoting blood clots. These proteins send signals to each other and enhance each others activity exponentially at the site of injury, resulting in a rapid chemical chain reaction which produces fibrin, the main protein forming clots. This blood clot formed with fibrin is tougher and more durable than the platelet plug.Once the blood clot forms, it is strategic that it not grow and spread to the rest of the body, which can cause serious damage. This is where anti-clotting comes in to play. Proteins such as antithrombin, protein C, and protein S, are known anti-clotting proteins and exist in a natural balance with the clotting factors. These substances work to neutralize excess clotting factors, preventing the clot from going to place s it should not. The final part of the process is where the clot is slowly grim down by the body. Once the damaged tissue heals, the body gradually degrades the clot and reabsorbs it.The tough fibrin strands in a blood clot are fade away by an enzyme called plasmin. Plasmin is activated by other substances working together to help the clot break down. The whole process of blood clotting is whenever the blood is exposed to certain substances. These are known as thrombogenic substances because they promotethe formation of thrombus (clot). Many of these substances, such as tissue factor, collagen, and von Willebrand factor, are located in the skin or in the blood vessel walls, typically separated from flowing blood. If they come into contact with flowing blood, this typically means the blood vessel wall is ruptured and bleeding. A clot may also form when blood is not flowing properly. http//www.hematology.org/patients/blood-disorders/blood-clots/5233.aspx http//www.webmd.com/a-to-z-gu ides/blood-clots

Color and Gatsby Essay

Convey The hit the hay Age overwhelming parties, dresses and a variety of colours to symbolise the vibrant and colourful (maybe garish? ) lives/culture of people during The Jazz Age. Yellow and Gold Money, Money, Money. Oh, and Death. First off, weve got yellows and fundss, which were thinking has something to do withgold (in the cash money sense). Why gold and non green? Because were talk of the town about the real stuff, the authentic, traditional, old money not these new-fangled dollar bills. So you have Gatsbys party, where the turkeys are bewitched to dark gold, and Jordans slender flamboyant arms (3. 19), and Daisy the golden girl (7. 99), and Gatsby wearing a gold tie to see Daisy at Nicks house. But yellow is different. Yellow is fake gold its veneer and show rather than substance. We see that with the yellow cocktail music at Gatsbys party (1) and the two girls in twin yellow dresses who arent as alluring as the golden Jordan (3. 15). Also yellow? Gatsbys car, symbol of his desireand failureto enter New Yorks high society. And if that werent enough, T. J. Eckleburgs glasses, looking over the wasteland of America, are yellow.White Innocence and Femininity. Maybe. While were looking at cars, notice that Daisys car (back in advance she was married) was white. So are her clothes, the rooms of her house, and about half the adjectives used to describe her (her white neck, white girlhood, the kings daughter high in a white palace). Everyone likes to say that white in The Great Gatsby means innocence, probably because (1) thats easy to say and (2) everyone else is saying it. But come on Daisy is hardly the picture of girlish innocence. At the end of the novel, shes set forth as selfish, careless, and destructive. Does this make the point that even the purest characters in Gatsby have been corrupted? Did Daisy come off all innocent and fall along the course, or was there no such purity to begin with? Or, in some way, does Daisys end to remain with Tom allow her to keep her innocence? Well keep thinking about that one. Blue This Ones Up For Grabs Then theres the color blue, which we think plays Gatsbys illusions his deeply romantic dreams of unreality. We did notice that the color blue is present around Gatsby more than any other character. His gardens are blue, his drive wears blue, the water separating him from Daisy is his blue lawn (9. 150), mingled with the blue smoke of brittle leaves in his yard. His transformation into Jay Gatsby is sparked by Cody, who buys him, among other things, a blue coatand he sends a woman who comes to his house a gas blue dress (3. 25). Before you tie this up under one simple label, keep in mind that the look of T. J. Eckleburg are also blue, and so is Toms car.If blue represents illusions and alternatives to reality, maybe that makes the eyes of God into a non-existent dream. As for Toms carwell, you apprize field that one. Grey and a General Lack of Color Lifelessness (no surprise there) I f the ash heaps are associated with lifelessness and barrenness, and grey is associated with the ash heaps, anyone described as grey is going to be connected to barren lifelessness. Our main contender is Wilson When anyone spoke to him he invariably laughed in an agreeable colorless way (2. 17).Wilsons face is ashen, and a white ashen dust covers his suit (2. 17), and his eyes are described as pale and glazed. Were not as well as surprised when she shows up with a gun at the end of the novel. Green Life, Vitality, The Future, Exploration Last one. Were thinking green = plants and trees and stuff, so it must represent life and springtime and other happy events. Right? Well, the most noticeable image is that green flatboat we seem to see over and over. You know, the green light of the orgastic future that we stretch our hands towards, etc. (9. 149).Right before these famous last lines, Nick also describes the invigorated, green breast of the new ball, the new world being this lan d as Nick imagines it existed hundreds of years before. Green also shows upwe think significantlyas the long green tickets that the rich kids of kale use as entry to their fabulous parties, the kind of parties where Daisy and Tom meet, and where Gatsby falls in love. So green does represent a kind of hope, but not always a good one. When Nick imagines Gatsbys future without Daisy, he sees a new world, material without being real, where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted as luck would have it about like that ashen fantastic figure gliding toward him through the amorphous trees. Nick struggles to define what the future really means, especially as he faces the new decade before him (the dreaded thirties). Is he driving on toward grey, ashen death through the twilight, or reaching out for a bright, fresh green future across the water?

Critical Thinking Model Example

1. I believe a college education is the most important goal a young person should pursue. 2. From my pinnacle of view the concept of a college is an accredited institution that offers a liberal arts program in addition to specific subject areas. Its importance should be in the top 3 areas of a young persons life. 3. An example would be the small college I attended where I was introduced to a huge liberal education. 4. I have always held this view.My parents influenced me and then I was able to test this view out when I chose my college and the degrees I earned. I always knew you could major in a lot of areas without the need to be that specific. 5. I am assuming that most people have the opportunity to experience college and can leave it. They have both the resources and the will to succeed in college. 6. A liberal education introduces the student to a vast body of knowledge, encourages them to become a stop thinker and provides a foundation from which they can build upon and re fer back to.Studies suggest that top employers value good communication skills, problem solving skills and the big businessman to think independently. A liberal education provides this skill. 7. Another POV is that people excel in lots of different areas and can pursue a trade college or skill and begin making money right after high school. 8. Even though many people do not have the energy or resources to go to college and begin working, I conclude if resources and talents allow, a liberal education is an invaluable pursuit in a young persons life. . The consequences of believing in a liberal education are that colleges need to continue to receive the proper funding to keep liberal arts programs course and alive. They also need to make sure that enough aid is awarded to those students that cannot afford to attend. And finally, family and work need to take a backseat in order to fulfill the requirements of college life.

Principles of Learning David Robertson

As the Course Lecturer for the Automotive Department at Newcastle College it is my duty, and end, to guarantee that the basic underpinning cognition ( both practical and theoretical ) of Motor vehicle engine room is delivered to the schoolchilds of the piece so they may fix, either for City and Guilds scrutiny, or employment in a local labor vehicle constitution. Many weighty volumes have been penned with respect to the annoyed interrogative of Learning Theories in training, their sibylline benefits, and their effects upon studying and whether they exist as separate entities at any. How ever, before any decisions can be arrived at, an intellect of the assorted theories, their chief supporters and their consequence upon larning result necessitate to be grasped. After a casual analyze into the single speculation I will follow up with my ideas as to the deductions in relation to my whimsical country of instruction. Prior to this analysis it is necessary to supply an every placeview of the accomplishment manners presently used in the field of EducationThese manners f all into three rootsA/ cognitive- In the Cognitive manner pupils establish theoretical cognition through the airing of information normally in a category establish environment. This is extremely relevant to drive vehicle technology as the topic is inherently complex.B/ Psychomotor- In the Psychomotor manner pupils are required to show a scope of practical get dressedshop found deeds. This is critical in that the topic is one that demands a grade of manual sleight.C/ emotive- In the Affective manner pupils exact how to carry on themselves perform and follow the right attitude in a doshop environment. This is yet a instance of endurance a workshop is a potentially unguaranteed topographic decimal point to be in.All of the above manners are, to changing grades and dependent upon the lesson in inquiry, employ in the theories listed below.Learning theories, or rules of acquisitio n, have been developed ( sometimes over decennaries ) and honed to better the teachers stoppage of the act of pupil acquisition. Therefore, instructors require an apprehension of these rules, which highlight countries where pupils are most likely to associate to, and so learn from. These rules include the Fieldss ofCognitivismBehaviorismHumanitarianismGestaltSocial LearningWe as instructors, sometimes without cognizing it, be given to accommodate our manner of bringing to suit these rules subconsciously. However, with an apprehension of these rules combined with a background cognition of the pupils themselves, such rules, as listed above, could redeeming(prenominal) better the manner in which a lesson is delivered, and so, accordingly, better the acquisition of the pupils.CognitivismThe classify of educationists, be intimaten jointly as the Cognitivists, among whom are the noteworthy figures of denim Piaget, Jerome Bruner and Lev Vygotsky topographic point major accent on the p upils themselves and how they get, and kindly organize, the cognition they gain, in consequence how they know the universe around them. The overall procedure is a complex system of unseeable mental activities workings together to bring forth a nett addition in understanding. Basically, it is about thought, derivation cognition, retrieving and concluding.Pioneering work in the field of cognitive development was chiefly done with kids in an effort to understand how they learn, so cognitive development can be viewed as the growing of logical thought over clip ( state as the kid matures ) and with due keep to the scholars environment from childhood to adulthood. Professor J.Bruner termed this as a signifier of scaffolding , whereby an grownup would bit by bit take the support built up around the kid ( or older scholar ) as they be succeed more able to understand, or maestro, a shady undertaking. The Russian Marxist Philosopher Lev Vygotsky nevertheless ( working in pre WWII Russia ) , given he is in the Cognitivist cantonment, did non utilize the staging theory at all, alternatively he developed a parallel theory called The Zone of Proximal Development in which the scholar is at the Centre of a group of coaxal circles, with what is already known at the Centre and what is to be learned radiating out in rings. The overall construct is that the scholar, with aid from either older kids or grownups, moves ( via direction ) from the interior countries to the outer thereby deriving cognition and proficiency. This is reinforced by Reece & A Walker who province Students do non simply receive information, exactly actively make a form of what it means to them . ( Reece & A Walker 2003 p86 )In the Cognitive clap to instruction, cognition is viewed as symbolic and as the overall consequence of larning while larning itself occurs through the repeat of a peculiar undertaking. The pupil is encouraged and motivated to experiment, from which they will hopefully de duce a intelligence of accomplishment. With mention to my culture the Cognitive ack-ack gun is clearly apparent, and so it lends itself specimenly to the country as agate line resultant role and experimentation ( for illustration reiterating a undertaking until proficient ) is a major tool in the sound judgment procedure of my scholars. An illustration of this is when a peculiar pupil listens to my verbal bringing, so understands the construct and eventually remembers the base to a job besides if they can hold on the logical thinking behind the job so they will hold fulfilled all four standards for cognitive acquisition. They can so come on and utilize this maintained cognition to work out other, more complex, Motor Vehicle Engineering inquiries. The of import thing to retrieve is that my scholars are non inactive in this state of affairs, only when originative in footings of what the instruction and acquisition agencies to them, they are active participants in the acquisiti on procedure, utilizing their cognitive accomplishments to understand a impertinent state of affairs.BehaviorismAs Curzon ( 1997 p36 ) states Behaviourism arose as a reaction to larning being interpreted as mere mental operation .The Behaviourist attack to acquisition is based on a chiefly nineteenth speed of light construct that followers a scientific attack to the survey of human existences, and their responses to outside stimulations, may good supply an penetration into how people learn. It was to a great extent influenced by animate being experiments ( a front-runner of many doingsists ) which demonstrated the consequence on encephalon forms of controlled conditions and stimulation it was further argued that this could be carried over to worlds. The Russian Physicist Pavlov ( 1849-1936 ) is best known for his experiments with Canis familiariss. Basically, he linked a specific sound with the proviso of nutrient which caused the Canis familiaris to salivate. After some clip he discovered that the mere sound would do the Canis familiaris to salivate, so reenforcing the theory that a stimulation based response was taking topographic point in the Canis familiaris. However when this was carried over to conditional human responses the ability of worlds to utilize linguistic conference to pass on muddied the Waterss slightly as this accomplishment interfered with pure inherent aptitudes based responses. He concluded that worlds have fewer inherent aptitudes than animate beings ( or instead the 1s we had have been eroded by development ) hence human behavior is governed by conditional responses. He besides opined that mental phenomenon could be dealt with objectively and scientifically when it is seen as discernible and mensurable behavior.John B Watson was another chief cheer of the Behaviourist school of idea in relation to human acquisition. He thought that behavior could be modified through the actions of assorted stimulations upon the case-by-case and that, as a effect, the person in inquiry could be conditioned through these stimulations to bring on a alteration in behavior so stellar(prenominal) to larning taking topographic point. In my instruction I use the procedure of giving feedback as a signifier of encouragement, and sometimes dis assigne, whether it is in the signifier of verbal congratulations, following a direct inquiry aimed at a peculiar pupil or in a written mode after measuring an assignment. I have found that positive feedback from me will take to better future work, and an increased floor of assurance, from the pupil. So in this manner a stimulations based response system is robust in my field. electropositive feedback is an about guaranteed manner of bring oning larning in a pupil but this has to be tempered by the times when I have to be critical of the work of a pupil, it is a equilibrating act, on my portion, to draw the right degree of stimulations ( feedback ) to promote a pupil without detering them by being excessively critical.Sometimes a critical feedback study from me is designed, and worded, to advance a response in the peculiar pupil as if I am throwing down a challenge to them to better.HumanitarianismThe Humanist acquisition rule, or Humanism, grew out of a sense of dissatisfaction with other larning theories, particularly Behaviourism. The humanistic Psychologist Abraham Maslow ( 1890-1970 ) believed a scholar s physiological demands, safety demands and the sense of belong to a group had to be fulfilled before the motive to larn was realised, and his now celebrated power structure of Needs pyramid high spots this in item, runing, as it does, from the basic demands of nutrient and shelter at the base up to self-actualisation at the vertex.Maslow confirmed this, as quoted by Curzon ( 1997 p121 ) who states that instruction has the undertaking of assisting each individual to go the best that he is able to go .Among his beliefs were that scientific psychological s cience was inherently unimpregnated and dehumanising, he argued that people should be viewed as whole human existences and that the function of the instructor was to assist, rede and steer the pupil towards understanding. The basic needs nevertheless ( at the base of the pyramid ) are chiefly issues beyond the instructors control. However, Kyriacou ( 1998 p72 ) states the increase consciousness of the importance of furthering students ego regard has been a major development over the old ages .This holistic attack to instruction pioneered by Maslow was shared by Carl Rogers who proposed that larning should be student find led. Building upon the consensus that pupils carry on about 5 % of instruction delivered strictly by talk and that they retain a great consider more if the pupil finds out, or discovers, the information for themselves. Rogers called for the humanization of the schoolroom in order to make the ideal environment for acquisition. In relation to my learning the hu manistic attack to acquisition has the undermentioned deductionsThe demand to put the room environment in a mode contributing to larning ( so at least nerve-racking to carry through Maslow s most basic demands ) for illustration warming, illuming and chair agreement to name but three is non ever possible for logistical grounds.I need to move as a facilitator, or conduit, through which pupil acquisition can happen. In other words become a vision for the pupils to use and work. There is a demand to integrate my ain experiences of the topic into the lesson bringing, but some of my narratives complimentary something in the relation. All the clip non burying that I am the instructor and the pupils are at College to larn through my direction so at that place will necessarily be a indisputable grade of farness on my portion even if merely for the fact that I can neer be a portion of the group wholly, there is, and has to be, a limit line between instructor and pupil. For this ground e ntirely ( if no other ) the Humanism theory of instruction is one that I do non favor in its classical complete sense. However parts of it I can, and do, utilize for illustration I find it benefits most groups if I adopt the older brother ethos on occasion instead than ever portraying the distant instructor.GestaltGestalt ( from the German for structured form ) is the school of educational thought concerned with following an overall position to acquisition, in other words the whole is greater than the amount of the single parts. Gestaltists believe that understanding demands consciousness, on the portion of the pupil, of the relationship between assorted facts and how they interrelate to bring forth an overall image.Previous experiences in the life of the scholar will assist to lend to the procedure of apprehension, but the real(a) procedure of thought is more of import than mere callback. Understanding, harmonizing to Gestaltists, is based upon a procedure known as Insight. Insi ght is non a lucky conjecture, arrived at by mere opportunity, but is when a pupil all of a sudden becomes cognizant of the solution to a job the light bulb above the head or the penny dropping seems to sum up the state of affairs absolutely. Something that, on the surface, is an bete noire to repetitive or rote acquisition. It is fundamentally the gaining, or acquisition, and keeping of penetration, by the pupil, that is at the bosom of the theory of Gestalt. Besides the election and retrieval of information is indispensable if other, new constructions of perceptual experience are to be created. The thought is that the instructor must construction larning during the lesson so that scholars reach an overview, detect inter-relationships, and can therefore pattern independent productive thought. In the world of my mundane learning the whole construct of leting the pupil to come across the define reply by penetration is to state the leastimpractical. Faced with a group of Motor Ve hicle pupils fighting to hold on the complexnesss of the internals of a auto engine and stating to them that the reply will come if merely they had insight is unusually brave of any teacher Lashkar-e-Taiba alone me. This may good work on a one to one footing when I, the instructor, have the clip to give but with a big category, of changing ability, it is a non-starter in footings of a instruction scheme.Social LearningBesides known as the Social Cognitive Theory, this peculiar field of involvement narrows in on how people learn in a social context or, in other words, the procedure whereby people gain cognition through societal interaction either by talking to, detecting, or following the illustration of another individual, or group of people, in a societal ( or vocational ) scene. An illustration of Social Learning ( that most people will hold undergone ) is when a new employee is inducted into the ethos of their new employer. The innovators of Social Learning Theory ( among whom ar e the honored figures of A. Bandura, J. wash up and E. Wenger ) propose that the group state of affairs is ideal for breeding larning via the persons in that group working together to accomplish a common end. Inevitably, in any group, there will be a colossal assortment of anterior acquisition or experience but it is this really diverseness that is the strength of this peculiar theory.Because a diverse scope of people are thrown together in a group state of affairs this requires them to speak, interact, communicate & A acquire involved in the job in inquiry hopefully taking to a solution to the job and bring oning a alteration in behavior ( larning ) in the persons. Because the group have a inquiry to reply this is the foundation upon which duologue is built and, as Lindeman ( 1926 p86 ) says Active engagement in interesting personal businesss furnishes proper stimulations for rational growing .In my instruction I use the Social Learning attack rather frequently. I find that a group work state of affairs will normally be more productive in footings of retained larning than a talk based bringing manner. I see myself as more of a facilitator than a teacher in these Sessionss, by steering the pupils towards accomplishing larning by their ain, co-operative, attempts. I simply lay the foundations for the session by presenting certain inquiries and so taking a spot of a back place as it were, all the clip monitoring advancement. At the terminal of the allowed clip for the exercising I will draw together the ideas from the disparate groups hopefully reenforcing the acquisition that has taken topographic point and rounding up any accomplishment in the session.Of the instruction theories illustrated above I have found that I personally favour the Cognitivist attack it has good deductions for my instruction, it lends itself ideally to the instruction of Engineering although the other theories are, to changing grades, helpful ( except Gestalt ) depending upon the peculiar acquisition activity in inquiry. Understanding the assorted larning theories can be utile, if non indispensable, in integrating different learning methods into the lessons. I recognise that over clip I teach, and deliver in, all of the larning countries nevertheless, concentrating on the most allow for country ( and pupil larning manner ) should assist to better the success of my instruction.

Good cancer pain management can help patients feel better Essay

Most crab louse unhurrieds suffer from wound in varying degrees during their illness. The management of this suffer and its relationship in improving the benefit of the patient is the primary focus of this study. This paper approached the study by look intoing articles that dealt with sufferful sensation management from different angles. later on critical analysis of these articles this paper will arrive at a conclusion that addresses the research question. The topics reviewed include1. The use of a clinical instruction module (CLIM) for hospice nurses to upgrade their skills (Plymale, M. et al, 2001)2. The role of cognition in promoting the mental well being of the patient (Chen, Mei-Ling. 2002)3. The use of pang management autobiographies to discover how best to deal with pain management (Schumacher, K. et al. 2001)4. Overcoming patient related barriers to pain management by educating them (Chang, Ming-Chuan. 2002)5. Providing a description of advanced genus Cancer pain in home hospice subjects to en up to(p) the caregivers to alleviate their suffering (Dobratz, M. 2001)The material for this study was searched from the University of Wollongong database of Medline. The key voice communication in the search for diary articles were nursing, research and pubic louse pain. words were chosen for their relevance to the research question and the findings they came up with. Information that was obtained from these studies enabled the writer to draw important conclusions as concerns pain management in cancer patients with pain. The research is of extreme importance to the writer. I lost my husband to cancer. The trauma we all went through watching him in pain gave me a new impetus to do all in my power to ensure that no other patient will need to go through the same suffering as he did. As I continue to practice, I would like to contribute to breaking new ground in pain management in cancer patients especially as concerns alleviating their pain and impro ving their quality of life.Article 1In an article entitled Cancer Pain Education A Structured clinical Instruction Module For Hospice Nurses, appearing in the journal Cancer Nursing ,Plymale M. et al (2001) studied the onus of pain education on the quality of service by caregivers. The research aimed to determine whether educating nurses on pain management will improve their ability to assess and manage pain in cancer patients. A clinical instruction module (CLIM) based on cancer pain management and opinion skills was administered to 25 hospice nurses whose average field practice was 4.1 years (Plymale M. et al. 2001, p. 424).The course involved the nurses going round 8 move focussing on different aspects of cancer pain, assessing 5 cancer survivors and one actor. They carried out tests on sundry(a) aspects of pain management. Prior to and after the exercise the nurses self assessed their skills in pain management using a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1(not competent) to 5(v ery competent). They also evaluated the CLIM on a similar scale. (1= strongly disagree 5= strongly agree) only participants agreed that the course helped improve their competence in the teaching items that were being addressed. The use of patients with cancer was considered more than(prenominal) beneficial as opposed to having actors. Nurses that felt competent enough before the course did not behold any noticeable improvement in their abilities in the post exercise self assessment. This finding is uniform with the view that hospice nurses are more competent in dealing with cancer pain management than those nurses working in hospitals. Those who assessed themselves as not competent indicated a higher assessment of themselves after the course. In a further study conducted among post instruction medical students, those trained using a CLIM on pain management did better than those schooled it traditional methods. (Sloan P.A. et al., 2001, 112) There is an urgent need to introduce C LIMs addressing pain assessment and management in the teaching courses for all nurses and caregivers in a bid to improve their skills and service delivery. The more competent the nurses the better will be the treatment of patients in prolonging their lives and alleviating the pain they go through. A earthshaking observation of this study is the competence level of hospice nurses was higher than that of their counterparts. It is advisable to seek their input in growth manuals and modules of this nature as they have first hand knowledge that is invaluable to this area of study.Article 2Pain And Hope in Patients with Cancer, an article written by Chen, Mei-Ling and appearing in the journal Cancer Nursing (2003) examines the relationship between pain and anticipate in cancer patients. Hope is a therapeutic factor in the treatment of any infirmity including cancer. Patients with high levels of swear coped better with the disease than did those who dwelt on the hopelessness of their situation. The hopeful patients on average tended to live longer and had extended periods of remission. This study had tercet main purposesi. Examine the effect of disease status on hope levels among patients with cancer who have painii. Compare the level of hope between patients with cancer that have pain and those who do notiii. hold which dimensions of pain are associated with hope (Chen, Mei-Ling. 2002, p.62)The conceptual framework for the study was based on the self- regulation present of coping with health threats. (Chen, Mei-Ling. 2002, p.62) The main emphasis is on how people cope with their health problems in their consume unique ways. Personal beliefs, religious orientation, cultural practises and previous experiences all work to determine a patients attitude towards his illness.(Donavan, H.S., Ward, S., 2001, pp. 211 216)Any one of the factors mentioned will have a bearing on the hope levels of the individual. The study employed the use of the Herth Hope Index (HHI) to assess the level of hope. It sampled 274 inpatients with cancer at twain medical centres in Taiwan. 226 of them finalised the survey and the analysis was based on their responses. The study used Perceived intend of Cancer Pain Inventory (PMCPI) to measure the meanings that patients ascribed to their pain. Four subscales were used and these were challenge, threat, spiritual awareness and loss. The findings showed that in cancer patients with pain and those without pain, the hope levels did not differ. However, sensory dimensions of pain showed a link between the bearable pain intensity and level of hope (Chen, Mei-Ling. 2002, p. 65) The findings supported the view that the hope levels in patients were higher in those who were able to tolerate more pain. Perception of ones pain played an important role in the way one held on to hope. Those who viewed the pain as a challenge were more hopeful than those who took it from a negative perspective. In assessing ones reaction to treatme nt, it is notable that the findings showed no difference in hope levels for those patients who were unsure of the effect of treatment and those who affirmed that the treatment was working positively.

Animal Farm Allegory – Revolution and Dystopia

Eric Blair, known by his pen c every George Orwell, was an Englishman whose writings attacked political and social oppression. One of his best-known works, Animal put forward, was written in 1945 and is a ridicule on abusive political power and an entirelyegory of Russian history. George Orwells life experiences influenced Animal Farm as a student, he was discriminated against, and as an adult he was often impoverished and rebelled against social and economic oppression. catnap, a huge Berkshire boar who becomes the dictator of Animal Farm, exhibits many of the traits of Stalin and another(prenominal) dictators as he eer readys thought and belief, sets up a whipping boy, and proves his power by making others suffer. short sleep uses his agent Squealer to manipulate thought and belief about he happenings on the promote unspoiled as Stalin used the communist newspaper, Pravda. Throughout the course of the novel, the animals all work on the windmill, the main project of the farm.At the very start, Napoleon had been opposed to the view of the windmill, still through Squealer makes all the other animals believe that he had never in reality been opposed to the windmill (Orwell 71). Napoleon is probably opposed to the idea of the windmill because it was sweet sand verbenas idea first. After Snowball was expelled, Napoleon takes the idea as his own so he outhouse have the credit if it succeeds, and if it doesnt then he can demonic Snowball.Joseph Stalin did much of the same idea in that if anything worked, it was his idea and if it failed, he quickly found a scapegoat. Napoleon also uses Squealer to sprinkle propaganda about his false feelings for the animals. He has Squealer give long speeches in which he would talk with the weeping rolling down his cheeks of Napoleons wisdom, the goodness of his heart, and the deep love he bore to all animals everywhere, even and especially the unhappy animals who still lived in ignorance and slavery on other farms (Orwell 100).Napoleon plainly doesnt care much for the animals on the farm just as Stalin and other dictators dont really care about the well being of the people that they rule. Napoleon, like Stalin and other dictators, uses propaganda to maintain have over the people, and keep himself in power. Just as Stalin sets up Trotsky as his scapegoat for things that go wrong, Napoleon makes Snowball his scapegoat throughout the novel so Napoleon never takes the blame for anything. As conditions on the farm start to deteriorate under Napoleons rule, Napoleon tells the animals that Snowball stole the corn, he inconvenience oneself the milk-pails, he broke the eggs, he trampled the seedbeds, he gnawed the bark off the fruit trees (Orwell 88). This isnt the case, as Snowball had never done any of those things just as all scapegoats normally dont come out any of the crimes they are accused of. Napoleon, like Stalin and other dictators, need to set up a scapegoat for poor conditions so that failures will never reflect poorly on them.As conditions on the farm grow worse and worse under Napoleons rule, it becomes commonplace for the animals to accept that Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowball (Orwell 88). A big enough lie has been told about Snowball so often, that all the animals just automatically believe that all the problems on the farm are Snowballs fault. Without scapegoats to blame all their problems on, dictators would be overthrown even more quickly than they usually are. Napoleon shares another trait with other dictators in that he must prove his power by making others suffer. To help wash his hold of all of the failures of the farm, Napoleon, by intimidation, forces four pigs to confess that they had been secretly in touch with Snowball ever since his expulsion, that they had collaborated with him in destroying the windmill, and that they had entered into an agreement with him to hand over Animal Farm to Mr. Frederick (Orwell 92). Napoleon holds these trials of the animals and forces them to confess to things that they didnt do just as Joseph Stalin did during the Moscow Purge Trails. The trials continue and the reasons for slaughtering become even more ridiculous as well-nigh animals are even slain for having a dream of Snowball. The awful trials continue, until there was a pile of corpses assembly before Napoleons feet and the air was heavy with the smell of blood, which had been unknown there since the expulsion of Jones (Orwell 93). The troupe that the pigs and Napoleon created has now come to mirror the society that the animals had rebelled against at the beginning of the novel. Napoleon, like other dictators, feels that he must continually prove his power in order to keep from being overthrown.Napoleon forever manipulates the thoughts and beliefs of the other animals, sets up Snowball as a scapegoat, and proves his power by making others suffer for his failures, interchangeable to how Stalin a nd other dictators established and controlled their regimes. When those in power become corrupt, prosperous societies become dystopias controlled by the wishes and wants of those who lead. Lord Acton at a time said that Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, a theme that is echoed not only throughout this novel, but also throughout history.

Volcanic Landforms

volcanic Land rows Volcano is essentially a fissure or vent (opening) which serves as an outlet for unrecorded magma from beneath the Earths crust. The hot unruffled magma coming out in the form of lava (most commonly resolve basalt) is potential of shaping different landforms on earth crust. The most common landforms that are results of volcanic use include cones, craters, calderas, domes etc. This article gives a description of these volcanic landforms. SHIELD VOLCANOES- These are characterised by vote down in the mouth upper vends. The slope varies from only 5 degrees to 10 degrees. The shield volcanoes are made up of chiefly thin lava flows about central vent. The low viscosity lava (low silica content) travels down gently and as it cools down it creates little steeper lower slope. These are to a erroneousness found at the flanks of bigger volcanoes like Kilauea is situated on the Hawaiian shield volcano. STRATOVOLCANOES- These are characterised somewhat steeper slopes (30 degrees to 40degees) near the vent and the summit repayable to highly viscous lava flows are not able to travel long distances before they cool down. The less steeper slopes at the base is due to erosional activity. The show inter layering of pyroclastic material and thus sometimes also called composite volcanoes. Pyroclastic material make upto 50% of a stratovolcano. They show a long time of heartsease which makes them quite dangerous. CINDER CONES- They are small volume cones fig up by fall deposites around the eruptive vent. There slope is around 25-30 degrees. During later stages of eruptions the lava may come out from the flanks. Cinder and tephra cones ordinarily occur around summit vents and flank vents of stratovolcanoes.MAARS- The magma heats up the ground piss and converts it into vapours which builds up pressure and results in eruptions containing piss and pre-existing rocks. Walls of crater fall back into crater and fills it with loose material. If the crater de pth reaches below the water table of the region, the maars often fill up with water. LAVA DOMES- The viscous lava or rhyolitic lava is not able to flow furthermost away from the vent, it rather accumulates over the vent. The forecoming lava from the vent pushes and the upper solidified outer come near rolls down to the flank. The slope is very rough due to spines pushed up by the magma below. CRATERS AND CALDERAS- Craters are the depressions which are the results of explosions emitting gases and tephras. They can range upto 1km in diameter. Calderas are large depressions, circular or elliptical in shape with diameters ranging from 1 km to 50 km. Calderas form as a result of collapse of a volcanic structure. The collapse results from evacuation of the underlying magma chamber. The evacuation process of lava chambers in stratovolcanoes in rapid and as the lava goes out the walls collapse and form a large crater. They are enclosed depressions which often collect rain water and snow r un away and may form lakes. Like Crater Lake in southern Oregon is about 8km in diameter and dated to be formed around 6800years ago. FUMAROLES- A fumarole is vent where gases, either from a magma body at depth, or steam from heated groundwater, emerges at the surface of the Earth. Since most magmatic gas is H2O vapor, and since heated groundwater allow produce H2O vapor, fumaroles willing only be visible if the water condenses. H2O vapor is invisible, unless droplets of liquid water have condensed). HOT SPRINGS- Hot springs or thermal springs are areas where hot water comes to the surface of the Earth. Cool groundwater moves downward and is heated by a body of magma or hot rock. A hot spring results if this hot water can find its way back to the surface, usually along fault zonesGYESERS- A geyser results if the hot spring has a plumbing system that allows for the accumulation of steam from the change state water. When the steam pressure builds so that it is higher than the pressu re of the overlying water in the system, the steam will move rapidly toward the surface, causing the eruption of the overlying water. Some geysers, like Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park, erupt at regular intervals. The time between eruptions is controlled by the time it takes for the steam pressure to build in the underlying plumbing system.

Key words security, networks, PC Humans in the Loop Like so many argonas of IT, security would be invincible if it were not for letting people use the agreements and applications, sadly this has to make it and so systems get corrupted, hacked and generally brought to their knees. Both by users and external attacks by hackers, etc. Security has been stepped up over many years as better understanding of where problems can come from and what must be done to stop them. But, now very often the very security is itself the biggest problem as it gets in the way of productive work and can cause major problems for IT personnel trying to control users and liquid give them sufficient mobility to do their job sound. Problems come from areas such as giving someone permissions to do a task on a mission critical application, the person goes on holiday and gives some other person in the department the passwords to get into the application, that person is not well trained and promptly crashes the system on Monday morning, what then? The holidayer and substitute person will be punished then they say oh well its impossible to get permissions for something as short as a week off, just the reports ready to be done what should managers think, it has been done for the best of motives, but the outcome is a disaster for the company security systems and for productivity. fashioning staff aware there can be bad outcomes is all very well, but if they obtain they cannot work well then human genius says fi nd a way around the problem system or process as its no good. The other way will be for staff to say well we cannot do it because of the system and then productivity takes a tumble. Managers are leave swearing at the whole mess, which has an apparently impossible set of outcomes. Security officers in various companies have tried some very harsh tactics to ensure they get rid of the bad guys, chant Dibattiste states that as security officer in ChoicePoint where it had been attacked by a Nigerian person by the get up of Olatunji Oluwatosin, who had posed as a legitimate set of enterprises and he was then able to set up 50 bogus accounts and got hold of ChoicePoints customers personal data, including names, addresses and social security numbers. When he was arrested he had to pay tail $6.5 million in restitution. The problems for ChoicePoint had barely begun though, as the customers had no confidence and disappeared in droves. It was only when the company could denominate how well it had beefed up security that customers started to return. It now has a very harsh security system but feels that is better than being lax. But is it being to harsh, according to reports it will now check existing customers and if it finds something it feels is enigmatic even though the customer has already been through rigorous vetting it will cut them off, human nature though shows that things can get away from a small, busy company. So maybe a smaller to harsh today? There are measures that must be taken and then there are those that

Since 1925, FLPDs communication system has upgraded from one telephone to a center that provides 911 computer and radio communications for just about 700 police and 300 fire employees (flpd.org). Each year the center handles approximately 500,000 phone calls, which at generation require that the dispatcher rely upon information from other informational sources. In response, a dispatcher must pronounce a call before dispatching the appropri ate unit. A phone call requiring a police response is entered into the Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) before forwarded to the dispatch section. Managed and supported by the ISU, the CAD matches and relays pertinent information. Thus, a dispatcher could consult the ISU via the CAD and warn a responding officer of much need information prior to his or her arrival on a crime scene. Without knowing the priors of a violent crook from another state, an officer responding to a 911 call would be ill prepared and vulnerable. On the other hand, an aware officer could better assess the criminal and situation and handle them accordingly. Thus, the interconnectivity of systems provides invaluable information and should be keep and protected.Adequacy in Systems Protection Preservation and protection for vital information is essential. Further, reliability of the information retrieved from the system assures deciding officers and equips them with confidence when qualification decisions. Faulty information from the system could result in an officer making a grave mistake. In addition, faulty information results in time lost when a subdivision tries to recover from
